Capital Limited is excited to announce it will be the title sponsor for the Heart and Lung Research Institute of WA’s (HLRI WA) annual Breaths and Beats Ride for Research.
The Capital Limited Breaths and Beats Ride for Research event is a 29km cycling event to raise funds for critical research that will help improve patient care outcomes and save the lives of those affected by advanced heart and lung conditions.
Team leaders, who are all recipients of heart or lung transplants, will lead their team of riders around the course beginning and ending at St James Mitchell Park in South Perth. A community picnic and celebration will be held at the end of the event.
Funds raised through the Capital Limited Breaths and Beats Ride for Research event will contribute to the vital work of the HLRI WA. Since their inception in 2015, they have extended their research beyond heart and lung transplants and are now actively investigating numerous areas of advanced heart and lung disease. This work has enabled significant growth in skills and capacity in Western Australia and the outcomes of the research will have benefits globally across multiple medical fields, including those where Capital has an established presence.
Six projects are currently underway investigating a range of possible therapies from protecting blood vessels to improve recovery from heart surgery, improving treatment of bleeding after heart lung bypass surgery, to extending timeframes for donor hearts from removal to transplant which may increase donor heart availability.
Brian Rudd, Executive Director, Capital Limited said, “We are thrilled to support the Heart and Lung Institute of WA’s research through coming on board as the title sponsor for their major fundraising event. Supporting such an important research facility, based here in Western Australia where a significant number of our employees and clients live, aligns with our company’s long history of supporting activities that make a difference to local communities. In this event, the team leaders of the ride are living proof of how important advancing heart and lung research is.”
Dr Warren Pavey, Chair of the Heart and Lung Research Institute added, “We are very pleased to have Capital’s support for our event this year as we strive to reach our target of $1,000,000. Heart and lung conditions can affect anybody, young and old and the generous support of our sponsors will enable us to progress our research projects to continue to make a real difference to patients.”

About Heart and Lung Research Institute of WA’s (HLRI WA) and Breaths and Beats
HLRI WA was established by a group of inquisitive doctors and cardiovascular specialists in 2015 to progress research into advanced heart and lung disease.
The only medical advanced heart and lung disease medical research facility of its kind in Western Australia, it is dedicated to saving lives and improving outcomes for people with heart and lung disease.
HLRI WA conducts clinical research in partnership with Fiona Stanley Hospital and their patients as well as participating in multi-centre trials in other hospitals around the world.
At HLRI WA we have a dream to raise $1million to fit out our laboratory at Murdoch University with state-of-the-part equipment and attract the brightest minds in medical research to join our team.
While our researchers have a wonderful track record in securing competitive, peer-reviewed scientific grants, fundraising through Breaths and Beats is critical to our success.
